Self Publishing can be a difficult process, when you're new to it. It is hard to sort out the ins and outs of it and come up with the best possible product. There are many things that will help.
Don't Rush:
First and foremost, just like writing the book shouldn't be rushed, neither can publishing it. It's a slow process and it takes time. So, have a little patience and research, research, research.
